Many iTunes users are looking at their music collection right now and thinking of Deleting Duplicates From iTunes. Not only is it annoying to see all those duplicates, but you spend needless time trying to figure out which version of a song is the right one.
Or you try playing all the songs in your song list and realize the same song has been played already and you have to stop whatever it is you’re doing and switch to the next song on the list.
What can you do?
Use iTunes.
This is the safest method for deleting duplicates from your iTunes song list. At a quick glance you can see duplicates, especially if you sort your library by song name or album name. There is also a built in function that will help you identify the exact duplicates. All you need to do is select File from the main menu bar and then select Display Duplicates.
Use software to delete the duplicates for you.
There are applications that are currently sold on the market that claim to automatically do this for you. It apparently seems to work in conjunction with your iTunes. The only problem with this method is that you need to have 100% confidence in the product. The product scans your collection and based on an algorithm, it will delete any files that look similar. I’m still not sure if I would want to trust a product that cleans up your library rather than you having to do it. It’s best to do more research on this.
Using a powerful plug-in to help you label any unknown music labels in your iTunes collection.
If you decide to do it manually through iTunes, you need to know all the information regarding the song file: song name, artist name, album name, genre, year and album art. Once you see this information you can sort and even confirm if indeed the files are duplicates. After using the plug-in, you will notice that all your songs will have the information listed above. When you sort the files by name or album, you will be able to confirm if indeed the files are duplicates.
Why don’t you have a look at the plug-in for yourself? Visit: Software To Start Deleting Duplicates From iTunes Automatically.
If you want to clean up your music collection you can either do it manually through iTunes or using an application. If you decide to use iTunes, it’s best to clean up your music files first and give them the right labels before scrapping any music files.
